THANK YOU NETGALLEY AND THE PUBLISHER FOR THE COPY OF THIS BOOK. ALL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ARE MY OWN.

SPOILER FREE!

This book was not for me. The book is written in verse. I felt this could have been written better with more of a story to it. The book was not going anywhere with the characters or nothing too exciting happens.

Paige is the girl writing as if she is in her journal. She writes down everything that is going on around her. She and her two best friends tell little white lies to people around them if it is about their age or where they are staying the night.

The story is short and maybe could have been a bit longer so we could get more from the characters. But all in all, I almost DNF the book but kept going for hopes that it was going to get better with the plot but nothing came of it.

I gave it 1/5 for the lack of character growth, not very detailed or scripted. The story of the girls and the white lies was just not very interesting or exciting for me.

Book Reader Problems Tag

Untitled

Happy Monday everyone. A new day another chapter. Been sewing all day and decided to take a break and post another fun tag for today. I found this lovely Book Tag on Book Filled Brain

Let’s begin this tag!

YOU HAVE 20,000 BOOKS ON YOUR TBR, HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU DECIDE WHAT TO READ NEXT?

It depends on my mood. If I’m feeling like I need a fantasy story or a crazy twisted dark story or even just a chilled relax story. It all depends how I’m feeling..sometimes. Other times if the book has been on the TBR list for a long time then I’ll start reading it.

YOU’RE HALFWAY THROUGH A BOOK AND YOU’RE JUST NOT LOVING IT. DO YOU PUT IT DOWN OR ARE YOU COMMITTED?

I have never DNF a book before. I’m always committed, I mean I have times, where I’m just thinking to myself or out loud too, where I say I’m not going to finish the book but I always do cause I just want to have hopes that at least in the end it could get better?

THE END OF THE YEAR IS COMING UP AND YOU ARE BEHIND ON YOUR READING CHALLENGE, DO YOU TRY AND CATCH UP? AND IF SO HOW?

Yes and no. Yes, I want to complete my challenge goal but if I’m behind a whole lot then I don’t want to force myself to read more and make myself feel forced to read just for a challenge, takes the fun of reading away for me.

THE COVER OF A SERIES YOU LOVE DO NOT MATCH. HOW DO YOU COPE?

I have no choice but to get over it I guess. But I do believe covers are a huge thing, at least for me.

EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER LOVES A BOOK THAT YOU DO NOT. WHO DO YOU BOND WITH OVER YOUR SHARED FEELINGS?

To the Book Community! Right here on my blog. Someone usually agrees with me here.

YOURE READING A BOOK IN PUBLIC AND YOU START CRYING, HOW DO YOU DEAL?

I don’t read in public! There is a huge reason for it. I can not stand people even more so when I read. There is always someone around that is either on their phones talking around me, someone chewing with their mouths open, kids yelling or crying, or someone staring at me like I’m crazy for holding a book in my hand rather than looking down at my cell phone. The only place I read that is public is my favorite reading cafe but that is it. Nowhere else. Unless I’m on a plane or at the DMV. Also, I will hold back the tears if it was to happen. No one wants to see me cry, I don’t want to see myself cry or anyone cry for that matter.

THE SEQUEL TO A BOOK YOU LOVE JUST CAME OUT BUT YOUVE FORGOTTEN A LOT OF WHAT HAPPENS. ARE YOU GOING TO REREAD IT?

Nope. I’m going to look back at my book reviews here on my blog to freshen up my memory. Plus if I’m reading the sequel that means I like the first book which means I won’t forget what happens.

YOU DONT WANT ANYONE BORROWING YOUR BOOKS, HOW DO YOU POLITELY SAY NO WHEN SOMEONE ASK?

My bestie is the only one that comes over and when she does ask, I say no! Just no or NO WAY! She’s messy and forgets everything and loses everything. It’s okay though because she is my best friend and she knows this, I still love her but my books are my everything.

IMG_0492.JPG

My bestie to the left who is the computer geek & Me as the book geek. Also, she designed some of my labels for my Bookish Candles!

YOU HAVE PICKED UP AND PUT DOWN 5 BOOKS IN THE LAST MONTH. HOW DO YOU GET OVER THIS READING SLUMP?

I do it by trying to pick up another amazing read to get myself going, If I stay in this slump mode then I’ll never read again.

THERE ARE SO MANY BOOKS COMING OUT THAT YOU ARE DYING TO READ, HOW MANY DO YOU END UP BUYING?

Once a month towards the end of the last week I go on a huge book haul at my local Barnes And Noble (Going tomorrow!) I tend to get anything between 10-20 books. Serious problem? I know my boyfriend tells me all the time.

AFTER YOU PURCHASE ALL THE BOOKS YOU ARE DYING TO READ, HOW LONG DO THEY SIT ON YOUR SHELVES BEFORE YOU GET TO THEM?

Around 6 months to a year, I would say. Depending on what book I purchased. So for example when Wicked King by Holly Black comes out next year I’m automatically going to start reading, no waiting. For others like the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard they are still on my TBR list and it’s been a few months since I purchased the series.

Well, that is all for now. Hope you enjoy my answers and if you wanna chat you know what to do. At the meantime, I’m gonna get back to sewing for a bit before I get into my current read. TTFN.

THANK YOU NETGALLEY AND THE PUBLISHER FOR THE COPY OF THIS BOOK. ALL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ARE MY OWN.

SPOILER FREE!

I’m totally speechless right now! This took me by surprise in so many good ways. I mean holy cow! I’m not a romance type of person, so I typically stay away from the romance novels but this year is all about trying new types of genres for me to see if I would like them. Since October is right around the corner I gave this book a chance thinking it was going to be a dark twisted story.

It’s my first Emma Castle book and it’s definitely not my last time reading her books that’s for sure. She writes dark and edgy romance and I must say that she got me hooked and she is officially my romance author to look out for. I loved it so much that I will be purchasing the physical copy to add to my book collection.

If you think we are dealing with this type of Devil in the book…

You are wrong, no red cape, no horns, no pitchfork. This is who we are dealing with…

We have an innocent girl name Diana, whose father has colon cancer and is about to pass away. It is out of Diana’s control when it comes to life and there’s nothing she can do but prepare for the death of her loved one.

Lucien AKA the Devil needs the purest soal to keep the hells gates strong which leads him to Diana.

“What would you give for him to be healed?”

“Anything…”

Are dearest Diana made a deal with the devil, exchange for her father to be alive and healthy, Diana must meet with the Devil every Friday at midnight until dawn for the next three months.

I had no idea where this story was going and how it was going to end. I kept reading and reading and the ending was SPECTACULAR! I was not expecting the ending and took me by surprise and WOW! Emma Castle knows what she is doing. The story was a wonderful read for me.

Very detailed story. I love that we get the background story of the once favored angel and how he became what we know as the Devil. All the characters in the story I fell in love with. The way Emma Castle described each character was perfect and well written. Diana is the main character who wasn’t the typical girl to just trust easily but take her time with trust, I mean she is with the Devil now and it wasn’t like love me love me type. Diana went with her instinct and what she knew of the Devil before anything grew between them.

I gave it 5/5 because the way the author wrote the story made you not want to put this book down, you wanted more and more to get to the ending to see what the fate was for the characters. This book is everything, my type of romance story. I can not wait for next year for Emma Castle’s second standalone A Wilderness Within!

I VOLUNTARILY READ AND REVIEW THIS ADVANCE COPY FROM NETGALLEY. ALL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ARE MY OWN, THANK YOU.

SPOILER FREE!

I’m very very VERY thrilled that I gave this book a chance. No mystical creatures, no royal families trying to take over the world its just a smooth read from the beginning to the very end. I could not put this book down. This is my first Susan Cunningham book I read from her and she brought it all in this lovely gem.

I was a bit nervous about getting into the book, I was thinking this was going to be like the Matrix with a little twist with some Crows into it. I was totally wrong and that’s a good thing! The beginning of the book hooked me and I needed to know more of what was going to happen and therefore I could not wast any time with anything else besides reading the whole book to find out.

From the beginning, we are introduced to a very intelligent young girl name Gin. Gin has a dream to get into Harvard University. She has a talent for designing programs. Programs that help you on what to wear, what to eat, when to be social, and possibly who you should date.

Going to Harvard is not her only goal. Gin is taking a computer simulations class that is a college-level course. The mentor of the class is Ms. Sandlin who is offering a summer internship to the best modeler. Gin who is determined to get this internship and put her talents to the test to achieve this goal.

Gin meets a boy in her class name Felix. Felix is also very intelligent with computers and designing programs. They are partners where they have to work together and design models. Gin starts to fall for Felix and learns that he and his father like to train Crows as a hobby.

“A plane flew across the sky and for a second, she imagined the rows of people tucked neatly inside, watching movies and sipping sodas. No idea they were flying over a boy training crows.”

For their final project, they decided to use the Crows and all the data over the years. Felix’s father who owns one of the biggest tech companies is not too excited about learning that his son and his partner are using the Crows for their project. With that being said things get really interesting and a dark secret that Gin will soon discover.

Susan Cunningham was detailed with her writing and I enjoyed every second of it. She did a wonderful job putting this story together and the pace of the story was perfect where I just wanted to know what was going to happen. I adore Gin’s and her best friend Hannah relationship (We all need a Hannah in our life’s) The ending was great! Highly recommend this lovely gem. I am not big on computers or designing but this story was just too good where you don’t have to be into computers or programming to have an understanding of the story.

Unique story, mystery vibes, a little romance! 5/5

  • Carving pumpkins!
  • Oh and my birthday is in fall, November 13th.

4. WHO / WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING?

What inspired me to start my book blog was to meet other bookworms out there in this big old world. My best friends, my boyfriend, and even my family are not readers. I have no one to discuss and fan girl over books. Books are my life and I want to share that passion with others who share the same. I mean I do have a lot to say when it comes to books and I need to let it all out one way or another and I guess that’s blogging.

5. HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU OWN THAT YOU HAVEN’T READ YET?

One moment please…49! All of them are on my TBR list 🙂

6. WHAT DOES YOUR PERFECT SELF- CARE DAY / NIGHT / WEEKEND LOOK LIKE?

I do have a lot of self-care days. During the day it’s sipping on some hot tea and taking Pop’s for his daily walk. Sewing, and lots of it. The rest of the day it’s more hot tea and reading! Little time spending with my boyfriend. Been with him for 10 years so I like to hang out in the bedroom where I have all my books while he is in the living room playing his games (The more the years go on we do are own thing but in the same house hold) HA! I don’t know why that puts a smile on my face but it did because playing online games like COD (Call Of DUTY) was always in my daily plan. NOT ANY MORE. But the perfect self care for me is just being me and doing what I love everyday and truth is that took me awhile to do. Make yourself happy and focus on your true hobbies that you are thrilled to do because if you don’t your mind will go nuts one way or another?! I hope I answered this correctly.

7. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE BOOK COVER EVER?

This bad boy right here! Willa Of The Wood By Robert Beatty. This cover just speaks nature to me. The green and blue just UGH so stunning.

8. ARE THERE WORDS / TERMS THAT IMMEDIATELY TURN YOU OFF A BOOK? WHICH ONES? WHY?

Hmm very good question. No there is not. At least not right now.

9. IS THERE A GENRE YOU RARELY READ BUT DO LOVE READING?

Autobiography books. I do enjoy reading stories from others and what they experience. I remember when I read Marilyn Manson’s autobiography in freshmen year in high school…one and only one thing came to mind..TMI…and wow rock and roll man! Two things I guess.

10. MUNCHES! WHAT NATIONAL / LOCAL DISH ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

CALAMARI! Yes I love Calamari, I always look forward to a plate of this deliciousness.

11. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOKISH ITEM?

Bookish candles. So so many creative ones and they smell fantastic which is a plus. I like to put the bookish candles on my shelf by the book that the candle belongs to. Anyone else do that?

Hardcovers, Paperbacks, or Nooks?

IMG_1438

Hey bookworms. As of right now I am enjoying myself on my porch while the sun sets and its a bit cooler here at the desert. Usually I am sipping on some hot tea right now but todays drink of choice is Cactus Cooler. Due to this lovely evening I would like to discuss about the choices of how you bookworms like to read and how I like to read.

My daily routine is usually the same I  wake up, take the dog for a walk, clean myself up and sew then once it gets late I start to make some hot tea and relax and get ready to read, but what is in my hands when I’m reading? Good question!

When I go to my local Barnes And Noble store or even when I am ordering a book online I am always looking for the hardcovers. Why? I don’t really like holding the hardcovers when I read considering I try to read two to three hours a night and my wrist tend to get tired from holding the book. But what I do like is how it looks on my book shelfs and just holding a hardcover book in my hands gives me some sort of comfort especially when I finish the book.

For the paperbacks it’s my last resort. The only time I get a paperback book is when I cant get my hands on the hardcover and I really want the book. I am a compulsive buyer and when it comes to books I must have. I’m sure most of you can relate. It is easier to read a paperback book without your hands getting tired.

Last but not least are the Nooks. I recently just got a Nook. I wanted to give it a try and see if it would actually work for me. Well it doesn’t work for me. I’m so caught up getting hardcover books that I’m not worried about getting the book onto the Nook. Don’t get me wrong the Nook is pretty cool to have but I have no use for it. I did download Sleepy Hollow audio (My very first audio) and I didn’t enjoy it so much. I like the feeling of having the book in my hands more then a tablet. We use so much technology everyday. I have my cell phone I’m using and my laptop, and a ps4 that its nice to lay down and get away from looking at a screen to actually looking at pages to read.

So I’m curious bookworms, how do you like to read your books?
