Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I’d Love To Meet

TTT-NEW

Hosted By That Artsy Reader

Happy Tuesday Bookworms! Another day closer to Halloween and I just couldn’t be more excited for this month. So much to do in so little time. For this week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Author’s I would like to meet. I’m very excited to discuss this topic and recently put a list together. If only authors came to Vegas more often, You would think they would but it’s either I’m missing out or they are going to some secret spot that I don’t know about. Who knows, but one thing is for sure is that they do seem to attend a lot of book signings in California so lucky me that state is my neighbor. Here are the authors I would love to meet and discuss stories they created and have some tea with that discussion (FACT: I get Starstruck)

MARISSA MEYER

I’m sure you all know Marissa Meyer, you know the one who wrote the Lunar Chronicles, Heartless, and her newest addition Renegades! She is on top of my list and luckily for me, she will be in Los Angles next month doing a book signing just two days before my birthday and I told my boyfriend it’s a must that I attend next month! I really can not miss out on this opportunity. Marissa Meyer here I come!

HOLLY BLACK

Oh yes, you made it on the list just because I read one book, The Cruel Prince and I fell in love right away, therefore Holly is on the list, do I really need to say more!? I’m sure you all would agree with me.

AMANDA FOODY

Her writing is unique to me and I love every second reading her books. I would love to have Mrs.Foody here sign my books and take a Polaroid Picture with me! Sounds creepy? No worries I’m obsessed with my polaroid camera.

LEIGH BARDUGO

I need to meet Leigh Bardugo! I have questions that need answers. Wonderful author, I adore her writing. I feel like we would have a good conversation discussing Six Of Crows and Crooked Kingdom.

TOMI ADEYEMI

Oh yes! I need my Children Of Blood And bone sign and please let’s discuss how wonderful she truly is with her stories. Everything about this author would be a blessing to meet her and get my books sign.

GREGORY MAGUIRE

The one that started the Wicked series. I would need a big fat cup of tea with this meeting. I feel Gregory as a creative imagination with his stories, I love each book he has written therefore I have tons of questions and tons of books that need to be signed from him.

BONUS FEATURE

Yes I know she is an actress, Yes I know she is awesome, and yes I totally froze when I met her. Who am I talking about! I’m talking about Vivica A. Fox. Mrs.Fox was at our local Barnes And Noble this year doing her book signing for her book called Every Day I’m Husting.

I was second in line to have my book signed. My mind was racing on what to say. I didn’t really have much to say, the only thing that was going thru my damn mind was KILL BILL IS AWESOME! That’s the last thing I wanted to say. I mean I knew that I wanted to really say but it was corny as hell, you know “Oh your book is so inspirational, your book made me smile and laugh..blah blah” Nope! I knew she heard it all by others and I didn’t want to add to it. I was stuck and I was out of time. Luckily for me, Mrs. Fox is truly amazing women who take her fans very seriously.

She started the convo and what did she ask me first? Well, basically what everyone talks to me about when they first meet me…I have a huge Rose and Spider tattoo on my neck and yes that caught her attention. Meeting her was truly amazing. Her book was very inspirational and reminds you that it’s okay to work on yourself to get where you want to be and be happy with yourself first before anything else. Highly recommend her book for women who are struggling maybe on finding yourself.

My Aunt Nicky on the left, Vivica A. Fox, and me! Yes, of course, I had to take the picture with my Polaroid camera! Old Skool style.

Hope you all in enjoyed this list. Love to hear what everyone thoughts are. Did you meet any of these authors yet? Who do you want to meet?

WITCH: A MAGICAL CHARACTER OR BOOK.

I’m going to give this one to the book Hocus Pocus And The All-New Sequel with Winnie Sanderson as the magical one. I mean she is pretty scary witch if she really was to come to this world.

WEREWOLF: THE PERFECT BOOK TO READ AT NIGHT.

IMG_1509

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark By Alvin Schwartz

I had this book since I was a child. This book scared me to death and made me stay up all night. Did you all know that they are in the process to make a movie from this spooky book?

FRANKENSTEIN: A BOOK THAT TRULY SHOCKED YOU.

Hocus Pocus And The All-New Sequel By J. W. Jantha. The sequel was not what I was expecting at all.

IMG_1412

THE DEVIL: A DARK, EVIL CHARACTER.

Well considering the title I’m going to dedicate this one to the Devil himself from Midnight With The Devil By Emma Castle. Gosh that was such an epic read!

GRIM REAPER: A CHARACTER THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE DIED.

From Six Of Crows/ Crooked Kingdom Matthias Helvar! I was not expecting it, I loved his character and who he was so much. Why! Why did he have to be the one to go?!!!

ZOMBIE: A BOOK THAT MADE YOU “HUNGRY” FOR MORE.

The Cruel Prince By Holly Black. I seriously need more of it, you have no idea! I’m counting down the days for The Wicked King!

GARGOYLE: A CHARACTER THAT YOU WOULD PROTECT AT ALL COST.

Enne Salta from Ace Of Shades By Amanda Foody all the way! I would be her BFF and show her the city of Sin and protect her from the street lords or anyone who would try to conflict her with sin to keep her an innocent person she was when she entered the city from the beginning. Ohh man I really can’t wait for the second book King Of Fools! I hope Enne hasn’t lost herself.

VAMPIRE: A BOOK THAT SUCKED THE LIFE OUT OF YOU.

One Too Many Lies By L. A. Bowen. At least it was a short story but seriously! It was truly boring.

GHOST: A BOOK THAT STILL HAUNTS YOU.

Heartless By Marissa Meyer. I mean I knew it was coming but not in that way. I thought it was going to be a bit more twisted but it ended in the way I least expected to.

DEMON: A BOOK THAT REALLY SCARED YOU.

Once again Scary Stories By Alvin Schwartz. It really messed me up as a kid, and I honestly haven’t read the stories since I was a kid however now that I am an adult I will be re-reading the stories. May the angels be on my side for this.

SKELTON: A CHARACTER YOU HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH.

Prince Cardan from The Cruel Prince By Holly Black. Ohh yeah, I want to know what makes you think that you can take your anger on another. He really bugs me.

MUMMY: A BOOK YOU WOULD PRESERVE THROUGHOUT TIME.

My Warrior series By Erin Hunter hands down. I would cherish these lovelies forever and ever. Thanks to these series I developed a severe addiction to reading.

CREEPY DOLL: A COVER TOO SCARY TO LOOK AT.

99284b20-2f49-0134-0aed-0629623c6db9.jpg

The Replacement By Brenna Yovanoff

I never read this book nor do I plan too. The cover of this is creeeeepy!

THE MONSTER MASH.

It’s fun to be with friends on Halloween. Tag your friends!

Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel Book Review

hocus-pocus-sequel-book-cover-1079832

Title: Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel

Author: A. W. Jantha

Publisher: FreeForm Books

Pages: 521

Rating: th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7

I can not tell you how disappointing this book was. Everything from the start of the sequel to the very end. I almost DNF the book, but since this is a sequel to one of my favorite Halloween movies as a child I wanted to finish the story. I knew it wasn’t going to get better.

The beginning of the book is just a recap from the movie with more knowledge of the characters feelings and a little bit more about the Sanderson sisters. I’m pretty bummed out that the author left out my favorite scene from the movie which was when the kids ran up to the cop who really wasn’t a cop! I just think that part should have been put into the book.

Once you get to the sequel its 25 years later on Halloween day in Salem. Max and Allison have a daughter named Poppy. I’m curious to why the author wanted the daughter name Poppy when everyone else has normal names like the author wanted the character to stand out more? Poppy has two close friends, Isabella and Travis. Poppy has a crush on her friend Isabella, and Travis who looks out for Poppy helping her with school, and social life with the other kids when Poppy seems to be getting attacked by others.

To sum it up without giving away to much of the story, Poppy doesn’t believe in her parents or her Aunt Dani’s story about Sanderson’s sister when they were kids. Poppy, Isabella, and Travis head to the Sanderson’s house and pretty much did exactly what her parents did 25 years ago minus the black candle.

It seems to me the author tried too hard to make this sequel to be better or equal to the first Hocus Pocus that she was adding too much of the same stuff from the first story. I didn’t like the same jokes and it wasn’t nearly as funny. The story was just too much for me and didn’t have enough originality for me. One thing that was irritating was that Sarah Sanderson would say Amok Amok Amok in the first story than with the sequel she always seems to be repeating herself with words like Afoot and such.

You do get to read some familiar characters from the first story which was nice. There is a new character named Elizabeth who is Winnie, Mary, and Sarah’s sister. I honestly didn’t think it was necessary to add another witch to the famous Sanderson witches.

All in all this story wasn’t it for me. Like I said I’m pretty bummed out about it. I couldn’t get into the story, everything just seemed forced together and that the author was trying to hard to make this story stand out.

If you read this book or thinking about reading the book let me know what your thoughts are. TTFN.

Ready to bring the Sanderson Sisters back?

Midnight With The Devil Book Review

Title: Midnight With The Devil

Author: Emma Castle

Publisher: Emma Castle, IBPA

Pages: 242

Rating: th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7

THANK YOU NETGALLEY AND THE PUBLISHER FOR THE COPY OF THIS BOOK. ALL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ARE MY OWN.

I’m totally speechless right now! This took me by surprise in so many good ways. I mean holy cow! I’m not a romance type of person, so I typically stay away from the romance novels but this year is all about trying new types of genres for me to see if I would like them. Since October is right around the corner I gave this book a chance thinking it was going to be a dark twisted story.

It’s my first Emma Castle book and it’s definitely not my last time reading her books that’s for sure. She writes dark and edgy romance and I must say that she got me hooked and she is officially my romance author to look out for. I loved it so much that I will be purchasing the physical copy to add to my book collection.

If you think we are dealing with this type of Devil in the book…

You are wrong, no red cape, no horns, no pitchfork. This is who we are dealing with…

We have an innocent girl name Diana, whose father has colon cancer and is about to pass away. It is out of Diana’s control when it comes to life and there’s nothing she can do but prepare for the death of her loved one.

Lucien AKA the Devil needs the purest soal to keep the hells gates strong which leads him to Diana.

“What would you give for him to be healed?”

“Anything…”

Are dearest Diana made a deal with the devil, exchange for her father to be alive and healthy, Diana must meet with the Devil every Friday at midnight until dawn for the next three months.

I had no idea where this story was going and how it was going to end. I kept reading and reading and the ending was SPECTACULAR! I was not expecting the ending and took me by surprise and WOW! Emma Castle knows what she is doing. The story was a wonderful read for me.

Very detailed story. I love that we get the background story of the once favored angel and how he became what we know as the Devil. All the characters in the story I fell in love with. The way Emma Castle described each character was perfect and well written. Diana are main character wasn’t the typical girl to just trust easily but take her time with trust, I mean she is with the Devil now and it wasn’t like love me love me type. Diana went with her instinct and what she knew of the Devil before anything grew between them.

I gave it 5/5 because the way the author wrote the story made you not want to put this book down, you wanted more and more to get to the ending to see what the fate was for the characters. This book is everything, my type of romance story. I can not wait for next year for Emma Castle’s second standalone A Wilderness Within!

Ready to make a deal?

Crow Flight ARC Book Review

Title: Crow Flight

Author: Susan Cunningham

Publisher: Amberjack Publishing

Publishing Date: December 11, 2018

Pages: 352

Rating: th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7

I VOLUNTARILY READ AND REVIEW THIS ADVANCE COPY FROM NETGALLEY. ALL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ARE MY OWN, THANK YOU.

I’m very very VERY thrilled that I gave this book a chance. No mystical creatures, no royal families trying to take over the world its just a smooth read from the beginning to the very end. I could not put this book down. This is my first Susan Cunningham book I read from her and she brought it all in this lovely gem.

I was a bit nervous about getting into the book, I was thinking this was going to be like the Matrix with a little twist with some Crows into it. I was totally wrong and that’s a good thing! The beginning of the book hooked me and I needed to know more of what was going to happen and therefore I could not wast any time with anything else besides reading the whole book to find out.

From the beginning, we are introduced to a very intelligent young girl name Gin. Gin has a dream to get into Harvard University. She has a talent for designing programs. Programs that help you on what to wear, what to eat, when to be social, and possibly who you should date.

Going to Harvard is not her only goal. Gin is taking a computer simulations class that is a college-level course. The mentor of the class is Ms. Sandlin who is offering a summer internship to the best modeler. Gin who is determined to get this internship and put her talents to the test to achieve this goal.

Gin meets a boy in her class name Felix. Felix is also very intelligent with computers and designing programs. They are partners where they have to work together and design models. Gin starts to fall for Felix and learns that he and his father like to train Crows as a hobby.

“A plane flew across the sky and for a second, she imagined the rows of people tucked neatly inside, watching movies and sipping sodas. No idea they were flying over a boy training crows.”

For their final project, they decided to use the Crows and all the data over the years. Felix’s father who owns one of the biggest tech companies is not too excited about learning that his son and his partner are using the Crows for their project. With that being said things get really interesting and a dark secret that Gin will soon discover.

Susan Cunningham was detailed with her writing and I enjoyed every second of it. She did a wonderful job putting this story together and the pace of the story was perfect where I just wanted to know what was going to happen. I adore Gin’s and her best friend Hannah relationship (We all need a Hannah in our life’s) The ending was great! Highly recommend this lovely gem. I am not big on computers or designing but this story was just too good where you don’t have to be into computers or programming to have an understanding of the story.

Unique story, mystery vibes, a little romance! 5/5

Top Ten Tuesday: Fall 2018 TBR

TTT-NEW   Hosted By That Artsy Reader Girl

I heard a lot about TTT (Top Ten Tuesday) in the book community and defiantly wanted to give it a go. I’m new to book blogging and would love to meet people who share the same interest as me which is books. So allow me to introduce my very first Top Ten Tuesday post.

This weeks TTT topic is my fall 2018 TBR list. I don’t know about you guys but I always look forward to fall. It’s just perfect reading weather for me here in the desert. It’s not to hot or cold to read outside at the park or on my porch. Pumpkin spice flavored everything! Tea, candles, and my favorite pumpkin spice donuts to enjoy while I read my book. So of course my fall 2018 TBR list is going to be epic this year. So here it is…

*Sips on some hot pumpkin Spice tea* I can not pass this lovely gem up this fall. This is absolutely the best fall book to read for me. I always looked forward to this movie on Halloween every year as a child now as a adult I’m not only looking forward to the movie once again but this book is just screaming at me to read this.

y648     Sea Witch By Sarah Henning

Holy cow! This is a stunning cover. I am so looking forward to this read. I bought this book the moment it hit stores. I always look forward to stories about villain’s and who they once were before they became the villain. I can not express how thrilled I am to start this lovely gem!

If I’m going to start the first book I’m gonna jump to the second one right away. Once I start something I need to finish it or at least give it my all.

My TBR list is small but it’s a good start for me. I look forward to these reads and sipping on some Pumpkin Spice hot tea in the process. What’s your Fall TBR list?
