Blogoween Day 7: They Got My Back

Blogoween Hosted Today By Kaleena @ Reader Voracious

I have a question here before we start today’s Blogoween. Who here actually reads The Walking Dead comics? I live right across the street from Celestial Comics and they have a pretty big selection of Walking Dead series. I was tempted to get them but the truth is I really don’t like zombies. Nasty creatures whoever thought of them, however, I have watched all the seasons so far besides the newest one that was just added to Netflix. I must say the ONLY reason I’m watching the show is that they have a character that has a TIGER! Now folks, If you been with me since the beginning of my postings then you would know that before I started reading actual stories I was a nerd reading Encyclopedia’s, mainly cat Encyclopedias. So whoever created the character Ezekiel and his Tiger for the zombie apocalypse is a genius! Which leads me to tell you if a zombie apocalypse breaks out the main one that is going to have my back…

Ezekiel And Shiva From The Walking Dead

I’m going to count these two as one. Ezekiel knows what he is doing in the Zombie Apocalypse! I would have no fear into this world knowing that these two have my back.

Raven From Heartless By Marissa Meyer

Raven is very important to the team. Flying the skies so high to see what’s up ahead and guide the team the proper path to avoid zombies or at least a huge herd of them.

Inej Ghafa AKA The Wraith From Six Of Crows/ Crooked Kingdom By Leigh Bardugo

Inej is not only good with her balance and ability to take on high-level buildings but she is a master with her knives which leaves her skills to take on zombies.

Daenerys Targaryen AKA Mother Of Dragons From A Game Of Thrones By George R. R. Martin

We need fire and lots of it when it comes to herds of zombies. The Mother Of Dragons does not deal with White Walkers to well since they are a bit more advanced attacking but human zombies are a piece of cake for her and her dragons.

Legolas From Lord Of The Rings By J. R. R. Tolkien

Skilled with archery, knowledge with creepy/ crazy creatures running around wanting to kill you, and very handsome…anyways Legolas is the cherry on top. When the world is going down you are gonna need him on your side and help guide the way of survival with his experience.

That’s my top five characters that have my back during a Zombie Apocolypse. Trust me when all hell breaks loose you need someone or something in the air to guide your path, you will also need a big cat! Nothing wrong with having a big cat on your side with a dragon that has a lot of fire to give out and kill tons of zombies at once, and a handsome knowledge elf too with an assassin that knows her stuff about knives. I think that pretty much covers everything and who I need to survive.

What do you guys think? Let me know. TTFN.

Blogoween Day 6: Halloween Book’s On My Book Haul List

Happy Saturday bookworms. Today is a gloomy day here in Vegas and I can’t get enough of it. Perfect reading and cleaning weather. I have a confession to make! I absolutely love to read but in the past three days, I been addicted to playing Call Of Duty WW2 Hordpoint, Which is zombies running after you and you always have to focus killing the other teammates while holding a certain spot down to earn points. I swore to myself to get back on track tonight and read my current read to have it finished in three days.

Every month I go on a big book haul on the 25th or around that time. This month I will be going on the 24th which is our Book Club meeting at our local Barnes And Noble and that’s when I’ll do my major book shopping. I thought I would share with you guys my Halloweenish books on my list for this month.

The Monkey’s Paw By W. W. Jacobs

I remember reading this when I was a kid in school and I loved it! I barely remember what happens or the full details but what I do know is that whoever holds the monkey paw you have three wishes…that come with major consequences.

The Witch’s Daughter By Paula Brackston

The Return Of The Witch By Paula Brackston

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children Series By Ransom Riggs

I think I’m going to leave it at that for this month. I’m not really into scary stories however if it has a great, twisted story, something I was not expecting towards the end then I’m all in for it. If you heard of any of these books let me know. TTFN.

Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel Book Review

Title: Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel

Author: A. W. Jantha

Publisher: FreeForm Books

Pages: 521

Rating: th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7

I can not tell you how disappointing this book was. Everything from the start of the sequel to the very end. I almost DNF the book, but since this is a sequel to one of my favorite Halloween movies as a child I wanted to finish the story. I knew it wasn’t going to get better.

The beginning of the book is just a recap from the movie with more knowledge of the characters feelings and a little bit more about the Sanderson sisters. I’m pretty bummed out that the author left out my favorite scene from the movie which was when the kids ran up to the cop who really wasn’t a cop! I just think that part should have been put into the book.

Once you get to the sequel its 25 years later on Halloween day in Salem. Max and Allison have a daughter named Poppy. I’m curious to why the author wanted the daughter name Poppy when everyone else has normal names like the author wanted the character to stand out more? Poppy has two close friends, Isabella and Travis. Poppy has a crush on her friend Isabella, and Travis who looks out for Poppy helping her with school, and social life with the other kids when Poppy seems to be getting attacked by others.

To sum it up without giving away to much of the story, Poppy doesn’t believe in her parents or her Aunt Dani’s story about Sanderson’s sister when they were kids. Poppy, Isabella, and Travis head to the Sanderson’s house and pretty much did exactly what her parents did 25 years ago minus the black candle.

It seems to me the author tried too hard to make this sequel to be better or equal to the first Hocus Pocus that she was adding too much of the same stuff from the first story. I didn’t like the same jokes and it wasn’t nearly as funny. The story was just too much for me and didn’t have enough originality for me. One thing that was irritating was that Sarah Sanderson would say Amok Amok Amok in the first story than with the sequel she always seems to be repeating herself with words like Afoot and such.

You do get to read some familiar characters from the first story which was nice. There is a new character named Elizabeth who is Winnie, Mary, and Sarah’s sister. I honestly didn’t think it was necessary to add another witch to the famous Sanderson witches.

All in all this story wasn’t it for me. Like I said I’m pretty bummed out about it. I couldn’t get into the story, everything just seemed forced together and that the author was trying to hard to make this story stand out.

If you read this book or thinking about reading the book let me know what your thoughts are. TTFN.

Ready to bring the Sanderson Sisters back?

September Book Haul

Howdy bookworms! Today was a wonderful day. Always is when you go on a full book day shopping. Today I went shopping at my local Barnes And Noble store. I usually spend two hours there wandering around looking for books I want to add to my collection. Once a month I go on a book haul and purchase books to add to my book collection. Today I brought home 14 books altogether, not to bad for a September book haul. Curious on what I purchase? Let me show you!

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing By Hank Green.

Every other month I tend to my local Barnes And Noble bookstore for the book club. This month is this lovely gem by Hank Green. I heard nothing but great things about Mr. Green so I am looking forward to this read and for the next book club meeting.

Small Fry By Lisa Brennan – Jobs

My Aunt Nicky told me about this book last month. I’m very excited to read this. We all know who Steve Jobs is ( Just in case you didnt…he is the creator of APPLE) well he had a daughter with his high school sweetheart, his first child and well he wasn’t that good to her. This is her story. I just have a feeling this is going to be an epic read.

Warriors Series *The New Prophecy* By Erin Hunter

Of coures, I had to collect more of these lovely gems. They are the reason why I started reading growing up. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the other three books in this series at the store. Just means I will have to order them.

Rule By Ellen Goodlett

I saw this and something told me to get it. I don’t know what it is but it looks and sounds fantastic. Magic, mystery, blackmail….sounds like a twisted story. The description of the story is what sold me on the book. A king is dying and needs an heir which brings three of his daughters who seem to have dark secrets of their own and someone knows about them and is trying to stop them from ruling. Another typical royal story but I can’t help myself when it comes to twisted stories, especially if it is written detailed and is unique.

Two Dark Reigns By Kendare Blake

I have the other two first books and I have yet to start the series. I hear mix things about the books but only you can tell. I’m hoping to get started in the series but as of right now I’m focusing on one book at a time rather than series right now. But I still wanted to add this gem to the collection. It’s on my TBR list.

Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda By Becky Albertalli

My boyfriend had bought me the second book Leah On The Off Beat first before I got the chance to read the first one. I didn’t know it at the time about the first book. I have yet to read both of them which makes them both on my TBR list.

The Gentleman’s Guide To Vice And Virtue By Mackenzi Lee

I had to jump on the bandwagon for this one. I hear nothing but great things. Also, I love the front cover because the man looks like Hayden Christensen. Yes, I love that man only because of Star Wars!

Yes? No? You tell me!

Scythe & Thunder Head By Neal Shusterman

I have been keeping my eyes on these books for some time and today was the day I decided to bring them home. Yet I hear mix things about the series but only I can tell. The story sounds unique and original. The covers are unique and beautiful. Yes, book covers are what leads me to buy books more.

Stalking Jack The Ripper & Hunting Prince Dracula By Kerri Maniscalco

Indeed these bad boys have been on my list for a long time. I had my eyes on them and wish I only got them a lot sooner. Unfortunately, the hardcovers were all gone at the store and paperbacks only. I had to make the choice to either order the hardcovers online or get the first two books in paperbacks and wait for the third one to come out to paperback…well I’m an impulsive buyer and I needed these lovely gems.

Every time I go to Barnes And Noble I always leave with two items for my bookshelves.

  1. IMG_1496

I always buy one or two leather cover editions to add to my collection. I absolutely love the books that they feature for the leather editions. Today was Little Women By Louisa May Alcott.

2. IMG_1485

Flashing Gremlin From Gremlins

The second items are the Funko Pops! A must have when I go shopping at Barnes And Noble to add to the collection.

Big Boy From Bob’s Big Boy

I saw this and I just freaked out! I’m originally from Michigan and my family and I always enjoyed eating there. I love this so much and is officially my favorite Funko Pop right now. Gosh seeing this is making me crave a Slim Jim sandwich!

Hope you guys enjoyed this list. Let me know if you read any of these books or let me know what your thoughts are. TTFN.

One Too Many Lies ARC Book Review

Title: One Too Many Lies

Author: L. A. Bowen

Publisher: West 44 Books

Publishing Date: December 1, 2018

Pages: 200

Rating: th6UTD2VT7

This book was not for me. The book is written in verse. I felt this could have been written better with more of a story to it. The book was not going anywhere with the characters or nothing too exciting happens.

Paige is the girl writing as if she is in her journal. She writes down everything that is going on around her. She and her two best friends tell little white lies to people around them if it is about their age or where they are staying the night.

The story is short and maybe could have been a bit longer so we could get more from the characters. But all in all, I almost DNF the book but kept going for hopes that it was going to get better with the plot but nothing came of it.

I gave it 1/5 for the lack of character growth, not very detailed or scripted. The story of the girls and the white lies was just not very interesting or exciting for me.

Ready to take a chance?

Crow Flight ARC Book Review

Title: Crow Flight

Author: Susan Cunningham

Publisher: Amberjack Publishing

Publishing Date: December 11, 2018

Pages: 352

Rating: th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7th6UTD2VT7

I’m very very VERY thrilled that I gave this book a chance. No mystical creatures, no royal families trying to take over the world its just a smooth read from the beginning to the very end. I could not put this book down. This is my first Susan Cunningham book I read from her and she brought it all in this lovely gem.

I was a bit nervous about getting into the book, I was thinking this was going to be like the Matrix with a little twist with some Crows into it. I was totally wrong and that’s a good thing! The beginning of the book hooked me and I needed to know more of what was going to happen and therefore I could not wast any time with anything else besides reading the whole book to find out.

From the beginning, we are introduced to a very intelligent young girl name Gin. Gin has a dream to get into Harvard University. She has a talent for designing programs. Programs that help you on what to wear, what to eat, when to be social, and possibly who you should date.

Going to Harvard is not her only goal. Gin is taking a computer simulations class that is a college-level course. The mentor of the class is Ms. Sandlin who is offering a summer internship to the best modeler. Gin who is determined to get this internship and put her talents to the test to achieve this goal.

Gin meets a boy in her class name Felix. Felix is also very intelligent with computers and designing programs. They are partners where they have to work together and design models. Gin starts to fall for Felix and learns that he and his father like to train Crows as a hobby.

“A plane flew across the sky and for a second, she imagined the rows of people tucked neatly inside, watching movies and sipping sodas. No idea they were flying over a boy training crows.”

For their final project, they decided to use the Crows and all the data over the years. Felix’s father who owns one of the biggest tech companies is not too excited about learning that his son and his partner are using the Crows for their project. With that being said things get really interesting and a dark secret that Gin will soon discover.

Susan Cunningham was detailed with her writing and I enjoyed every second of it. She did a wonderful job putting this story together and the pace of the story was perfect where I just wanted to know what was going to happen. I adore Gin’s and her best friend Hannah relationship (We all need a Hannah in our life’s) The ending was great! Highly recommend this lovely gem. I am not big on computers or designing but this story was just too good where you don’t have to be into computers or programming to have an understanding of the story.

Unique story, mystery vibes, a little romance! 5/5

Book Shelf Tour 2018

Howdy Bookworms! I’m a little bummed out today, I unfortunately have a cold and was supposed to hang out at my favorite reading cafe with my mother but she is also sick. Also my boyfriend was sick over the weekend and I was trying to avoid him like he was the devil trying to make a deal with me but I still ended up feeling gross. Damn him!

Today I thought I can give you guys a little insight into my reading world right in my room were I have all my lovely gems stacked up on my Billy Bookcases from Ikea. Before I show you the goods I would like to explain that this year or as of right now I had to re collect books. When me and my boyfriend were driving across the United States are house was robbed, and if you have ever experience this my condolences. Its not the best feeling in the world when you work hard every day to have everything taken from you. I cherish two things in this world that are items and that’s my children books given or passed down to me and my Nanna’s sewing machine. Luckily at the time my sewing machine was not at the house but my favorite books and classic books were gone unfortunately.

With that being said my shelf’s are not fully full…its a working progress and I will be there one day again.

So sit back and enjoy the tour.

Now if you look straight ahead you will see three Billy Book Shelf’s from Ikea. Two of them from the outside are the same and the one in the middle is a skinny shelf. Let me give you a tip here, lets call it Book Shelf’s 101…If you do plan on going to Ikea to purchase these rad shelf’s have them build it for you…pay that extra amount because I did not do it and I must be one of the most impatient person ever! I get frustrated if I cant figure it out or if it does not go my way when it comes to building things. Lego’s, KNex any of that stuff forget about it.

What had happen was….I originally had another book shelf so there was supposed to be four all together and well I destroyed one. I didn’t mean to it’s just not my cup of tea when it comes to putting things together.  My boyfriend was working and also working on his own projects that he couldn’t help me, at least not at that moment and since I was excited I took it to myself to build the shelf’s. I didn’t know it at the time but if you do build it yourself and something happens you can return it to get another in its place. I however did not do that and basically said forget it. But I ended up getting a sewing desk next to the shelf’s to replace that missing shelf. So at the end it worked out and I totally made sure the Ikea people build the desk this time around.

Moving on guys…

In a Galaxy far far away there was this amazing Star Wars book shelf. If you are a Star Wars fan you are automatically my BFF.  Enough Said.

The books that started it all for me. The Warriors series by Erin Hunter. Thanks to these amazing books I started to get into real serious reading. I had the original copies when they first came out and now I need to re collect the series. Has anyone else heard of these lovely gems? My all time favorite book/series growing up.

At the bottom of the shelf I have my Fairyloot boxes that I hold onto. In between are the Wicked series and the two amazing autobiography’s from Holly Madison and vivica A. Fox. Last book The Abduction I purchased for only 25 cents at my local library across the street from my home, they have a used book shop in there…amazing!

Starting at the bottom of the shelf in the middle would be some awesome gems like the Villains series by Serena Valentino. Some bookish candles that I created that you can find at my Etsy shop here. Let’s not forget Snow White Funko pop!

Some more Funko pop characters. My favorite is Starfire! Some bookish candles I received in my Fairyloot boxes this year. Have some pretty awesome series that are on my TBR list. Which I hear nothing but good things about for all of them.

More and more Funko pops! And more amazing gems in the back.

My olgy books that I have collected over the years as a kid. Luckily for me these were left behind and one of the best books in my collection I had that I cherish the most. Absolutely love these books.

At the right of the shelf’s starting from the bottom here are some of my Owlcrate book boxes I hold onto. In between are some lovely gems, actually looking at this picture while I type I realized I should put the Owlcrate books in between the boxes and the same with the Fairyloot…hmmm might just do that after this post.

A shelf with some amazing books. See any you have read?

Some books that were given to me. The book Anything Can Happen By George Papashvily was published in the 40’s is the oldest book I own and recently purchased it at a vintage shop here in Vegas.

Last but defiantly not least are my awesome Fables comic books. For those of you who know the show Once Upon A Time, Fables is just like the show (They got the idea from Fables actually) its fairy tale cross over but for adults. To the right is my Showgirls Of Las Vegas which is signed by Nancy Williams before she passed away and she was a showgirl in the 40’s.

Well that is all for the Book Shelf 2018 tour. Thank you for stopping by and taking a look. I look forward in the next couple years looking back at this post and seeing the growth of my book shelf’s. TTFN.
