SPOILER-FREE!

This is the best memoir I have ever read! Lisa’s writing is so beautiful and so detailed that it makes you not want to put the book down. I was hooked in from the very beginning of the first sentence…

“Three months before he died, I began to steal things from my father’s house.”

If you are asking yourself who is Lisa Brennan-Jobs, she is the first daughter of Steve Jobs and just in case you don’t know who that is he is the genius who created Apple and one of the founders of Pixar animation company. This is Lisa’s story and how she grew up having Steve Jobs as a father.

I knew this story was going to be a rough one meaning that Lisa’s story and how she grew up emotionally were not going to be the easiest. All she wanted was to be accepted by her father. It seems to me that Steve was in his own world and didn’t accept Lisa as his daughter from the beginning. Lisa’s mother, Chrisann Brennan was Steve Jobs’s high school sweetheart and soon after Lisa was born. When Lisa was a baby Steve was not around and even denied that Lisa was his daughter for the longest time.

Chrisann Brennan, Lisa’s mother, was someone I can sometimes relate to and also question the things she did when Lisa was a child. One part of the story I personally can relate was when Lisa’s mother went to the store with just $20…

“Twenty dollars for food and diapers; my mother used it to buy food and diapers, and also a bouquet of daisies and a small pack of patterned origami paper. Money, when we had it, was quick-burning bright, like kindling. We had just a little or not enough. My mother was not good at saving or making money, but she loved beauty.”

Before I became a mother myself I was that person that would go to the store with just little money I had and get one item to feed myself and flowers for the house knowing that I shouldn’t be buying that when I could get something that I really need but the flowers are what made me feel happy to walk into my house with them there on the table to let go of stress for one second to stare at beauty that I had in my home.

There was one time in the book that I had to put it down because I just couldn’t believe the action Steve did sometimes and this one section of the book Steve did something I could not believe that it was the most petty thing I ever heard of, and I just don’t understand why he would do something like this, Lisa’s mother wanted a house that was for sale and told Steve about it however they are not together but not only did this man looked at the house but he did buy the house…for himself and not for his daughter who is living in certain conditions and while he has money and could do what he wants he keeps for himself. I understand buying a house for the mother of your child that you’re not together is a bit too much but for you to actually buy the house she wanted and not let her move in it…

Steve was coming around when he wants to see Lisa and her mother at some point in her life when she was a teenager Lisa was able to move in with Steve, which was not all that glamorous for her. With restrictions and rules but not normal rules like not able to see your mother for six months for whatever reasons, maybe the health reasons? Lisa’s parents are something else, the decisions they make in life, and how they treated Lisa was shocking.

All Lisa wanted was to fit in with her father and be recognize as his daughter. Steve was no ordinary man and the relationship he had with Lisa and everyone was bizarre. I really enjoyed this book so much, Lisa did a fabulous job writing her story, it wasn’t gossip or talking negative about anyone, she told her story and she did a wonderful job doing so.

All I know is I would never go out to eat with Steve Jobs!

Barnes & Noble September YA book club book choice of the month.

SPOILER-FREE!

I enjoyed this read very much! I looked forward to reading this story every time I open the book. I loved how fast-paced the story was and how much action that was flowing thru the story.

We have two main characters that are completely the opposite of each other and how they see things in the world, they both are seniors at McPherson High School who both attend to the football game on a Friday night. We have Lena, who is not shy about her feelings and speaks her mind. She has a best friend name Lashunda and a boyfriend that goes by the name Black who is not in high school and is a bit older than Lena.

Campbell is the new girl in school and the new girl in the neighborhood. She is a bit more conservative and shy and keeps to herself with her thoughts. She was originally living with her mother but since her mom took a job outside of the country Campbell had to move with her dad. Her dad owns a hardware store in the neighborhood.

At the football game, we have both girls attend, Lena is watching the game and we have Campbell who is working the concession stand. A fight breaks out and both girls end up getting stuck with each other where this fight is getting out of control where there is gunshots, police officers not able to control the fight and the fight gets more serious where it is leading out to the neighborhoods and is now a straight riot.

Both girls need to get home safely and stick together on this wild adventure who needs to look out for each other in this crazy riot that breaks out in the streets. The writing of the story was well written where I can perfectly vison the scenes in my head like a movie. I enjoyed the story and how we get to read the girl’s view of each chapter to know what was going on in their head while everything was happening.

I really don’t like Lena’s boyfriend Black, I really think he was shady and didn’t seem to care for Lena’s safety when everything was getting out of control however the ending of the story with them kinda left me wondering what Lena was gonna do with her relationship with him.

The ending of the story was good and was something I wasn’t expecting to happen, I’m pretty satisfied how everything ended not leaving me wondering about so many things.

“If I’d never really know Tiger Lily was an animal, I knew it now. Tiger Lily was a beast, and the boys were too, and they were beasts together.”

Neverland is my favorite fictional place, I grew up loving Peter Pan and all the retelling stories and every possible movie ever made about it! I was super excited to get my hands on this book and it sure did surprise me.

The story is being told thru Tinker Bells eyes. I was not expecting that. In the beginning, it started out slow and at first, I was bummed out that the story was being told thru Tinker Bell but towards the end of the book it wasn’t too bad but there are parts in the story where I wish we could read Tiger Lily’s thoughts on certain events that would happen thru out the story.

This is a story between Tiger Lily and Peter Pan and how they feel for each other before Wendy Darling showed up to Neverland. It was a cute story and beautifully written however I feel like there could have been a bit more to the story and more of a background to some of the characters.

I do love that we get to see how the Tick-Tock Crocodile got the clock stuck in his stomach. We do get some background information on Captain Hook and how he got to Neverland. We get to have some knowledge of how time works in Neverland.

Some parts of the story were mention that Tiger Lily wasn’t pretty to some of the other characters in the story which I thought was a little bit of a bummer to read since Tiger Lily is a strong , unique character that I would think would be pretty inside and out.

I’m kinda on the defense side of the ending of the story but when I think about it there isn’t any other way to really end the story, at the beginning of the story it is said this is a sad story and the whole book is a dark story to be told.

Finishing the story kinda made me sad and depressed with how the characters were left off but I think that was the whole point.

SPOILER-FREE!

I read this book for my Barnes And Noble YA book club. This book was something else and it’s definitely something I don’t usually read. I feel all sorts of ways with this story and here is what I think.

We have an island with girls stuck at there school due to a weird spreading of something that affects each girl differently which they call it Tox. They are quarantined and can not leave the island.

We have three main characters Hetty, Byatt, and Reese. Byatt goes missing and Hetty is determined to find her by breaking rules to leave school grounds to find her friend and doing so she discovers what is really going on and the secrets that others been hiding from each other.

This was a creepy little story. I wish the author would have taken the time to write more about each character background so we could connect with the characters and build a connection with them. I didn’t like the writing of the story where it was too slow in the beginning and in the middle of the story. The ending was the only interesting part for me, where everything was coming together but yet I still have questions.

I think it could have been a bit more detailed with the characters and explain a little bit more with the Tox and how it affects everyone including the animals. It wasn’t a complete horrible story, could be better. I would like to also mention that the cover of the book is unique and absolutely love the cover.

I hope there is a second book if there is I will be reading it on hopes for some answers and more details on the girls and what was going on because the ending has me confused.

Ready to catch this Tox?

I read this book before I watched the movie and its such a great story. I love how John Green writes, he truly has become one of my top favorite authors.

Of course, the book was way better than the movie, that’s how it usually is. I picked this book up when I was at the airport waiting for my flight back home and read the whole book. I was sad and was shocked at how this story played out. It such a cute, emotional, story that gave me the feels.

The two main characters are Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters. I absolutely love these two characters together! I’m not much of a romantic type and if there is romance it needs to be original type romance if you know what I mean. Now that I’m thinking about it this would have to be my favorite romance book and here’s why…

Hazel has cancer and is going thru depression, her mother sends her to a support group where she meets Augustus. Thru out the book, you see a wonderful relationship building between the two where they fall in love with each other.

John Green wrote this story very beautiful and detailed. The character building between the two was perfect. The ending had me, I was expecting it but still had me with my feelings. I like how the ending finished, I was wondering how it was going to end and it ended just right.

I definitely recommend reading the book then watching the movie, I liked both but we all know the book is always better.

SPOILER-FREE!

What a great autobiography book. I’m so thrilled to have this lovely gem to my autobiography/biography book collection. Very inspirational. I learned a lot from Vivica and what she represents as a successful woman.

I first noticed Vivica in the Quentin Tarantino’s movie Kill Bill, my second favorite movie all time. I read this book this whole week while I was at work on my breaks and when I would get home. I couldn’t put this book down and re-reading some of the pages just to hear her inspiration on life and to be successful.

My favorite part in the book is the “Turn Your Haters Into Congratulators” page 121 section 3.Dont let someone ruin your workspace. I love when she says “Do you have a snake on the loose in your office? My condolences, but we’ll get through this.” I so happen to be reading that part while I was in my office at work and had to share this line with my co-worker who is dealing with some complications at work. It was just perfect timing.

Vivica is smart, funny, and the way she explains her life from the beginning sharing her dreams and doing what it takes and learning from her mistakes such as career-wise and relationship and taking on business she is a headstrong woman. I enjoyed reading this book and had the opportunity to meet her at Barnes And Noble and got my book signed by her.

I VOLUNTARILY READ AND REVIEW THIS COPY FROM NETGALLEY. ALL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ARE MY OWN, THANK YOU.

SPOILER FREE!

The beginning of the story caught me from the start but the more I read the more I just wanted to give up on the story. I felt like there were too much drama, royal drama and a weird love triangle that was just frustrating to me.

The story is fast paced with fewer details and confusion into everything. I love that it is first person view with different characters, so I know exactly what’s going on in each character’s mind however we did switch up characters rather fast.

Our main characters are Princess Charlotte and Prince Young and his brother Prince Minseo. Princess Charlotte is childish in the beginning but her character growth thru out the story was amazing to read especially in the ending. Out of all the characters in the story, Prince Young would have to be my favorite, I feel like he stayed true to himself and to others.

One character that was very frustrating to me and really got to me was Princess Charlotte’s servant Milly. Who was her friend or was supposed to be a friend but didn’t know how to be a friend. Without giving away to much about this character there was a certain part of the story where it was straight weird and disrespectful to Princess Charlotte when Milly and Prince Young were alone (Won’t give away anything). But now that I think about it the author did a good job writing about a character to really bug you.

The ending was the only part that I liked in the story. The story did feel rushed and less detailed and a huge messy love triangle with the characters however I kept reading only to find out what was going to happen with the characters. I do feel like something was missing to make this story truly incredible, I just feel like it was all over the place with everyone’s mix feelings.

Ready to take part in this love triangle?
