Well I’m ruined for the rest of the day. Just finished this amazing gem and I’m completely hungover from it. I really don’t know what to do with myself and I need more of this story.

This was my first Holly Black story I read from her and it is truly a wonderful, dark, magical story. UGHHH I seriously can not wait for the second book The Wicked King! I could not put this book down. I kept going and the ending was a shock for me.

Are main character Jude who is mortal living in the Fey world among with her twin sister Taryn deal with a lot of bullying from others that are not mortal. Jude wants to be nothing but a respected knight in the monarch court. Her dark journey finding the truth about the ones she loves and the ones that are among her are truly fascinating and makes you want more.

Holly Black did a wonderful job writing this story out where you can literally visualize everything in your head like a movie. I’m always focused when I’m reading but there are a lot of characters in this book where you do need to focus because I did have to flip back pages to be like “Wait! Who?”

Mystical creatures, betrayal, a dark world where mortals are looked down at. A royal family fighting for the crown and one big secret…Yes this book brought all of this. Epic journey of finding the truth and the main character Jude finding out who she truly is when she was that person from the beginning.

Also I would like to say that Jude’s birthday is the same day as mine 🙂

Are you in for this epic read because I was stuck in the book the moment I started the first page and wanted to know more of Jude and her life with others that bully her and how she copes in this world with faeries.

This book was on my TBR list for a long time and I wish I read this a lot sooner then I did. I’m thrilled I finally got the opportunity to read this and is now one of my top favorite reads of 2018.

Ready to leave the mortal world and enter the epic world of Fey?

  1. I adore this book SO MUCH. I read it at the end of last year and immediately ordered myself a physical copy. To then find out there would be a copy with an exclusive cover in FairyLoot – which I ordered as well. Oh, and after that, I found out the OwlCrate book of that month was ALSO The Cruel Prince with another cover.
Conclusion: I own all three covers and have NO regrets, haha. Can’t wait for The Wicked King to arrive!

    • Holy Cow! I seen the covers of the Fairyloot & The Owlcrate editions and they are so so beautiful! I started both box subscriptions 6 months ago so I missed out on those covers. I really can’t wait for The Wicked King to come out and trust me I will be reading it the moment I get my hands on it! I need to know more lol

      • Right?! I couldn’t NOT give in to temptation! I only buy OwlCrate once in a while; shipping is more expensive since they’re in the states so the theme really has to speak to me before I order one.
Same! I might even reread The Cruel Prince before then. It’s been a while since I read it, haha.

      • Fairyloot shipping cost gets me pretty bad since we are in the US but I really love Fairyloot and Owlcrate too!
Truth be told, I never reread books, at least not anytime soon, I’m always chasing the next story and I feel like I need to know every book and story out there (Big Mission) lol

      • Totally get that! Shipping is such a pain in the ass sometimes..
I’m usually the same, but certain books.. I just don’t mind rereading, hah. Especially those of authors I adore or books that gave me all the feelings [aka made me cry like a baby :’)]
