Barnes & Noble September YA book club book choice of the month.

SPOILER-FREE!

I enjoyed this read very much! I looked forward to reading this story every time I open the book. I loved how fast-paced the story was and how much action that was flowing thru the story.

We have two main characters that are completely the opposite of each other and how they see things in the world, they both are seniors at McPherson High School who both attend to the football game on a Friday night. We have Lena, who is not shy about her feelings and speaks her mind. She has a best friend name Lashunda and a boyfriend that goes by the name Black who is not in high school and is a bit older than Lena.

Campbell is the new girl in school and the new girl to the neighborhood. She is a bit more conservative and shy and keeps to herself with her thoughts. She was originally living with her mother but since her mom took a job outside of the country Campbell had to move with her dad. Her dad owns a hardware store in the neighborhood.

At the football game, we have both girls attend, Lena is watching the game and we have Campbell who is working the concession stand. A fight breaks out and both girls end up getting stuck with each other where this fight is getting out of control where there is gunshots, police officers not able to control the fight and the fight gets more serious where it is leading out to the neighborhoods and is now a straight riot.

Both girls need to get home safely and stick together on this wild adventure who need to look out for each other in this crazy riot that breaks out in the streets. The writing of the story was well written where I can perfectly vison the scenes in my head like a movie. I enjoyed the story and how we get to read the girls view on each chapter to know what was going on in their head while everything was happening.

I really don’t like Lena’s boyfriend Black, I really think he was shady and didn’t seem to care for Lena’s safety when everything was getting out of control however the ending of the story with them kinda left me wondering what Lena was gonna do with her relationship with him.

The ending of the story was good and was something I wasn’t expecting to happen, I’m pretty satisfied how everything ended not leaving me wondering about so many things.

Ready to survive this night?

Tiger Lily Book Review

Title: Tiger Lily

Series: Stand Alone

Author: Jodi Lynn Anderson

Publisher: Harper Collins

Pages: 292

Rating:simple-black-heart-silhouette_318-10296simple-black-heart-silhouette_318-10296simple-black-heart-silhouette_318-10296

SPOILER-FREE!

“If I’d never really know Tiger Lily was an animal, I knew it now. Tiger Lily was a beast, and the boys were too, and they were beasts together.”

Neverland is my favorite fictional place, I grew up loving Peter Pan and all the retelling stories and every possible movie ever made about it! I was super excited to get my hands on this book and it sure did surprise me.

The story is being told thru Tinker Bells eyes. I was not expecting that. In the beginning, it started out slow and at first, I was bummed out that the story was being told thru Tinker Bell but towards the end of the book it wasn’t too bad but there are parts in the story where I wish we could read Tiger Lily’s thoughts on certain events that would happen thru out the story.

This is a story between Tiger Lily and Peter Pan and how they feel for each other before Wendy Darling showed up to Neverland. It was a cute story and beautifully written however I feel like there could have been a bit more to the story and more of a background to some of the characters.

I do love that we get to see how the Tick-Tock Crocodile got the clock stuck in his stomach. We do get some background information on Captain Hook and how he got to Neverland. We get to have some knowledge of how time works in Neverland.

Some parts of the story were mention that Tiger Lily wasn’t pretty to some of the other characters in the story which I thought was a little bit of a bummer to read since Tiger Lily is a strong , unique character that I would think would be pretty inside and out.

I’m kinda on the defense side of the ending of the story but when I think about it there isn’t any other way to really end the story, at the beginning of the story it is said this is a sad story and the whole book is a dark story to be told.

Finishing the story kinda made me sad and depressed with how the characters were left off but I think that was the whole point.

Ready to take a trip to Neverland?

Wilder Girls Book Review

SPOILER-FREE!

I read this book for my Barnes And Noble YA book club. This book was something else and it’s definitely something I don’t usually read. I feel all sorts of ways with this story and here is what I think.

We have an island with girls stuck at there school due to a weird spreading of something that affects each girl differently which they call it Tox. They are quarantined and can not leave the island.

We have three main characters Hetty, Byatt, and Reese. Byatt goes missing and Hetty is determined to find her by breaking rules to leave school grounds to find her friend and doing so she discovers what is really going on and the secrets that others been hiding from each other.

This was a creepy little story. I wish the author would have taken the time to write more about each character background so we could connect with the characters and build a connection with them. I didn’t like the writing of the story where it was too slow in the beginning and in the middle of the story. The ending was the only interesting part for me, where everything was coming together but yet I still have questions.

I think it could have been a bit more detailed with the characters and explain a little bit more with the Tox and how it affects everyone including the animals. It wasn’t a complete horrible story, could be better. I would like to also mention that the cover of the book is unique and absolutely love the cover.

I hope there is a second book if there is I will be reading it on hopes for some answers and more details on the girls and what was going on because the ending has me confused.

Ready to catch this Tox?

The Fault In Our Stars Book Review

SPOILER-FREE!

I read this book before I watched the movie and its such a great story. I love how John Green writes, he truly has become one of my top favorite authors.

Of course, the book was way better than the movie, that’s how it usually is. I picked this book up when I was at the airport waiting for my flight back home and read the whole book. I was sad and was shocked at how this story played out. It such a cute, emotional, story that gave me the feels.

The two main characters are Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters. I absolutely love these two characters together! I’m not much of a romantic type and if there is romance it needs to be original type romance if you know what I mean. Now that I’m thinking about it this would have to be my favorite romance book and here’s why…

Hazel has cancer and is going thru depression, her mother sends her to a support group where she meets Augustus. Thru out the book, you see a wonderful relationship building between the two where they fall in love with each other.

John Green wrote this story very beautiful and detailed. The character building between the two was perfect. The ending had me, I was expecting it but still had me with my feelings. I like how the ending finished, I was wondering how it was going to end and it ended just right.

I definitely recommend reading the book then watching the movie, I liked both but we all know the book is always better.

No never! However, I have spilled my drink on a page a couple times but I never actually damaged a book where the book was completely damaged.

Have you ever damaged a borrowed book?

The only books I have borrowed were from my local library and I have not damaged any books when borrowed.

How long does it take you to read a book?

Now that I am a mother of a one-month-old it takes me at least a full week to finish one book.

Book that you haven’t finished?

I haven’t finished reading Caraval by Stephanie Garber, I didn’t get a chance since I gave birth around the time I was reading the book and I started reading the YA Barnes And Noble book club book Wilder Girls. I’ll get to the book after this one hopefully I just got a little distracted.

Hyped or popular books that you didn’t like?

Hocus Pocus and the all-new sequel! There was so much hype about this book and I was so disappointed in it. Click here to see my book review on the book.

Is there a book you wouldn’t tell anyone you were reading?

As an adult, I will tell anyone who asked what I was reading but when I was a child growing up my favorite book series were the Warriors by Erin Hunter and I used to hide my book from my classmates thinking they would make fun of me for reading, silly thing to do.

How many books do you own?

I have no clue but the words of my man he would say “Too many!”

Are you a fast or slow reader?

I’m in between, I’m an average reader however if the book has a lot of details and I’m really into the book I will take my time and read slow.

Do you like to buddy read?

I have not done a buddy read before if anyone is interested to let me know!

If you were only allowed to own one book, what would it be and why?

220px-Warriorsbook1

The first book of Warriors in the Warriors series. I picked this book because the series is what got me to start reading and I mean seriously reading all the time.

Down The Rabbit Hole Book Review

Title: Down The Rabbit Hole

Series: Stand Alone

SPOILER-FREE!

My mother let me borrow this book and at first, I was kinda on the defense side about reading it but gave it a chance only because I was curious.

Holly wrote this book where it’s going to make you want more and more of the story and why these girls wanted to be a playboy bunny in the first place. The story was juicy and detailed on the life of Holly and how she become a playboy bunny.

I must say that this is one of my new favorite autobiography books. So much detail about Holly and where her life went before and after the playboy mansion.  Holly’s story is not some boring story, from the beginning to the end of the book kept me going where I didn’t want to stop reading.

Holly talks about her time on the show The Girls Next Door, and her relationship with Hugh Heffner and the other girls in the mansion. She shares juicy details about what went on in the house and how things work and what it was like being a playboy model and Hugh Heffner’s girlfriend.

You get an insight into what it was like to be a playboy bunny and what girls did just to be living in the mansion. Holly also goes into detail on her personal life before she was a playboy model and what she did after the playboy life. This story was just interesting to read about Holly and the person she is now today. It’s not easy coming out with the truth or at least her truth in her eyes.

Who’s curious to know?
